A Meta-analysis of the Relationships between Chinese Parenting Styles and Child Academic Achievement

This article aimed to examine the relationships between Chinese parenting styles and child academic achievement through a meta-analytical review. After literature screening, 54 studies 793 independent effect sizes that met inclusion criteria were incorporated into analysis (n = 24630). According results of study, positive like “emotional warmth understanding” had prominent beneficial effects on achievement, whilst negative ones such as “punishment harshness”, “overinvolvement overprotection”, “preference for subject”, “rejection denial”) significantly unfavorable performance. In addition, relation parental overinvolvement overprotection was moderated by roles. Children’s ages could moderate (except overprotection) results. The connection preference subject disciplines. parents’ emotional understanding well times.
